What is FCL?

Full Container Load (FCL) means you book an entire container for your cargo. It’s ideal for large shipments, bulky items, or when you want your goods to travel alone without sharing space.

With FCL, you get a dedicated container, faster transit times, and lower risk of damage because your cargo isn’t moved or consolidated with other shipments.

What is LCL?

Less than Container Load (LCL) allows you to share container space with other shipments. You only pay for the volume you use, making it a cost‑effective option for smaller cargo.

LCL is perfect for personal belongings, small business shipments, or when you don’t have enough to fill an entire container. Your goods are consolidated at a warehouse and loaded with others heading to the same destination.

Cost Comparison

FCL has a fixed price per container, while LCL costs are calculated per cubic metre. For very small shipments, LCL is cheaper; for larger volumes, FCL becomes more economical.

Remember that LCL may include additional handling and consolidation fees. Always ask for a detailed quote before deciding.

1. Use Strong, Quality Boxes

Double‑walled cardboard boxes are ideal for most items. For heavy or fragile goods, consider wooden crates. Never use worn‑out or damaged boxes.

2. Wrap Items Individually

Each item should be wrapped with bubble wrap or foam, especially electronics, glassware, and furniture. Fill empty spaces inside boxes with packing peanuts or crumpled paper.

3. Label Clearly

Every box must be labelled with the sender’s and recipient’s full name, address, and telephone number. Add “FRAGILE” and “THIS WAY UP” stickers where necessary.

4. Know What You Cannot Ship

Dangerous goods, perishable items, and illegal substances are prohibited. Ask our team if you are unsure about a specific item.

5. Insure Your Shipment

Air freight is significantly faster – typical transit times are 3‑7 days worldwide. Sea freight takes longer, usually 2‑6 weeks depending on the route. If your shipment is urgent, air freight is the clear winner.

Cost

Sea freight is much cheaper per kilogram, especially for heavy or large shipments. Air freight can be 4‑6 times more expensive. For large volumes, sea freight makes the most financial sense.

Reliability & Environmental Impact

Sea freight schedules are highly predictable, with regular departures every two weeks to Libya. It also has a lower carbon footprint compared to air transport.
